Not Another Bloody Nose...

So, I have another story to tell, but instead of a bloody nose, this one ends up with more like a black eye....

On Saturday, I took Taylor over to my mom's house to go swimming for the first time this summer. It really took her a while to warm up to the water. The swimming pool water is just not as warm as her bath water like she likes it! She really didn't want to be in the water much until she started playing with a little water bucket, and I poured water all over her. I guess once she was completely wet the water didn't seem as cold. She had lots of fun playing with Grandma, but I don't think she enjoyed having to share her attention with my nephews, B & R... haha

(listen for Rylan to say, "Hello, gorgeous!" which I found out later is from Alvin & the Chipmunks)

Well, at one point, Taylor was sitting on the top step inside the water, and I was sitting right beside her on the outside of the pool. One of my nephews did something that caught my attention, and in the split second that I looked away, Taylor reached for the water bucket and fell forward into the water down to probably the bottom step, so she was completely immersed- at least her whole upper body. I immediately grabbed the first thing I could reach, which happened to be her leg, and yanked her up out of the water. I was holding her upside down with one leg, and I quickly flipped her right side up and said, "Breathe, baby!" It took her a few seconds to catch her breath, and once she did, she clung to me for a few minutes. I was fighting back tears and just kept saying, "I just looked away for a second." My mom kept trying to reassure me that she was okay, and then she noticed that she had a little cut on her right eye.

Her eye then began to get a little red and swollen and eventually turned into a little bit of a black eye. We're not sure what she hit her eye on, but there's a water jet on the side of the pool where the steps are, so we're thinking maybe that is what it was. Luckily, she wasn't traumatized or anything because she just clung to me for a few minutes and then was ready to get back down and play some more. It just happened so fast that I really didn't have time to think about what was going on until after it was over, and then, I just kept playing it over in my mind and thinking about how much worse it could have been. It just makes you realize what a difference a split second can make! I am so grateful that my baby is okay!!

After a little more playing and lots of Kool-Aid and snacks, Taylor took a good 3 hour long nap. All that sun and inhaling water can really wear a baby out! ;-)
